"Like" has become a word we no longer "Like"!
Let us explain.
Have you listened lately to dialogue and conversation you hear around you. Does it sound like someone is always talking or the conversation never seems to have an end? Well it could be from that little four letter word everyone is using these days. No, not FÜ©λ (get your mind out of the gutter!).
It's that word "Like". Let's take a look at an example of the length of time it now takes to state the same point.
First off, using "like"
Like the other like day we were like walking to the bus, and like you know we like took the bus to like this cool store where they like had this giant like Ferris wheel that like lit up when it like went around. Like, you know what like I mean? Like, I've never seen like some-like-thing that like does that!
Secondly, "normal" conversation
The other day we were walking to the bus, and we took the bus to this cool store where they had a giant Ferris wheel that lit up when it went around. You know what I mean? I've never seen something that does that!
That's better! Shorter conversation that says the same thing.
We're sorry for bringing this to your attention; although it does appear to be an epidemic (you can thank us for this public service announcement - or not). It's likely going to haunt you from here out. Now that you're aware of it you'll hear it in coffee shops, at home, at work and in school. Careful, you may even hear it coming from your mouth.
